Patients should discuss with their physician whether da Vinci surgery is appropriate for them. Patients and physicians should review all available information and related risks for nonsurgical and surgical options before making an informed decision. Any surgery may result in serious complications, including death, and da Vinci surgery is no exception. Serious risks include, but are not limited to, tissue or organ injury and conversion to another surgical technique. Individual outcomes may depend on patient characteristics, disease characteristics, and physician experience.
